The Shenanigan™ by Ken Onion

Seven years ago, CRKT send us the Ken Onion Skinner (K700KXP) to test and review. That knife made a believer out of both of us with respect to Ken’s ability as a master blade maker. We took his skinner on several hunts and skinned out elk, a dall sheep and feral hogs. Everyone of our guides tried to buy it from Mary. It was, and still is, that good. It has been our “go to knife” for dressing and skinning out big game.

Thus, when we had a chance to check out and test Kens Shenanigan, CRKT didn’t have to ask twice. The Shenanigan is an ideal everyday carry knife. It’s clean lines enable it to be extracted from the pocket with minimum effort. The blade deploys smoothly and rapidly thanks to Ken’s award winning Assisted Opening innovation coupled with the IKBS™ ball bearing pivot system.

The 1.4116 steel blade is ideal for a working EDC. It has great corrosion resistance, especially in humid environments. It has excellent edge retention and great hardness (HRC 56). Overall, it is very tough, perfect for a hard working knife.

Specifications for the Shenanigan are:
Blade Length: 3.35” (85.12 mm)
Blade Edge: Plain
Blade Steel: 1.4116
Blade Finish: Stonewash
Blade Thickness: 0.12” (2.95 mm)
Overall Length: 8.19” (207.98 mm)
Closed Length: 4.86” (123.32 mm)
Weight: 3.60 oz, (102.06 g)

I didn’t even get to tell Mary that I liked the knife and would take it hunting before she informed me that this “beauty” was hers AND I am to not even think about taking it hunting. She plans to use it on her Scimitar oryx hunt next spring. Maybe I need to buy one for myself…. She can’t use two, or can she?
